Spinning a Web of Leaders Bike Ride - Round 2

Well September is almost upon us, which can have a couple meanings. 1st it is time to put the new threads on our students and send them off to school, 2nd it will mean the start of the 2010/11 Hockey season from Beginners to the NHL all around the world and 3rd I guess you could say for us here at the W20 Foundation it is round 2 of the Spinning a Web of Leaders Bike Ride. Yes we are going to go at this again. On Saturday September 11th 2010 we are setting out for another bike ride to raise funds for the W20 Foundation, which help’s future leaders on Long Island with educational grants and partial scholarships through the sport of hockey. We will also be taking a portion of the proceeds and donating to a
leading Alzheimer’s and Dementia research center.

When I say we, I mean I have pulled the driver and Blogger out of the car from last year Dan O’Toole and on to the bike this year. I have a few other novice riders my Cousin Ryan Leal, along with my brother in-law Randy Carr who will be starting and finishing the ride with us. When I say novice I mean novice (Like haven’t rode a bike since middle school). Looks like we will be having some returnees’ from last season bike ride that participated during certain stages of the ride. They will assisting in making the trek north from the Kitchen Kaberet in East Hills Long Island, NY through NYC up to Albany then over to Buffalo
across the Niagara Falls boarder, blow through Toronto, continue around lake Ontario and head north to my hometown of Peterborough Ontario. We are taking the same route as last September with a couple slight changes once on the northern side of the Canadian/US boarder. Sticking with approx. 650 miles. Our goal is to reach our Destination on the following Sunday September 19 at the Peterborough Memorial Center where I played my Junior Hockey for the Peterborough Stars Tier 2 Jr.A and the Worldly known Peterborough Pete’s of the OHL. Which means we have shortened the biking time to 9 days. That is an average of 72 miles at day.

Last year we came just shy of raising $10 thousand dollars and would love to go well beyond that. We look forward to hearing from everyone on our W20 Foundation Blog through our training periods (which should have started a while ago but have not) and over the course of our 650-mile ride. Did I tell we have a novice crew with us this season? There will be some great stories while pedaling of a greater purpose.

Thank You for your Support
Stephen Webb
